About the race
The Cross 3 Playas takes place on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 10:00 am, starting on Calle Satrustegi, right in front of Ondarreta Beach. At that time on a mid-October morning, San Sebastián typically sees cool, pleasant running temperatures around 14-18°C, with a Cantabrian sea breeze accompanying runners for much of the course. This is one of the most established popular races in all of Gipuzkoa: it was born in the late 1980s under the Donostiako Jakintza Atletismo Kluba club, and this edition marks 36 years of uninterrupted history. It also has a strong social dimension: in the 2024 edition, a historic milestone was reached when, for the first time in over three decades, the number of women registered outnumbered men, and in 2025 female participation hit a record 53%. In short, it's a race open to every level, from those chasing a personal best to those simply looking to enjoy a morning of sport by the sea.The course, a single flat loop, is essentially a tour of the city at running pace:Start (km 0): the gun goes off on Calle Satrustegi, in front of the elegant Ondarreta Beach, with Mount Igueldo in the background and the Cantabrian breeze on your face.La Concha Promenade (km 1-3): the first stretch drops runners right into one of the most beautiful bays in the world, running along the La Concha railing with Santa Clara Island in the background — a very flat, fast section, perfect for settling into your pace. The city center and the Kursaal (km 4-6): the route heads into the heart of the city, passing near the Town Hall and the Boulevard, before crossing the Kursaal bridge and passing Moneo's famous "cubes" — this is where the biggest crowds tend to gather to cheer.Zurriola Beach (km 6-8): the race continues along this beach, famous for its waves and surf culture, in the Gros neighborhood.Back to Ondarreta and the finish (km 8-10): the route loops back along the bay to cross the finish line on Paseo Eduardo Chillida, with the "Comb of the Wind" sculptures as the final image — one of the city's most photographed spots. All participants receive a disposable bib-chip (no need to return it after finishing), a commemorative T-shirt, and a participation certificate, and the organizers provide pacers, gear check, showers, and aid stations, plus a special tasting at the finish area. The start is organized into 4 corrals based on each runner's estimated time, and there are trophies for the top three finishers, men's and women's, in the open category. The race also has a charitable component, partnering each year with a different local social cause.
