About the race
Race registration for the San Sebastián Rural Kutxa Half Marathon sells out months before race day every year, and that's no accident: in just five editions since its 2022 debut, this race has established itself as one of the standout dates on the Basque running calendar, thanks to an unusual combination of meticulous organization, a spectacular course, and an increasingly strong elite field. The 2026 edition — the fifth in its history — takes place on Sunday, October 4th, with start and finish at the same point, the Boulevard of San Sebastián, right in front of City Hall and the Alderdi Eder Gardens, in the heart of La Concha Bay. The field is capped at 5,000 runners, with registration handled in pricing tiers: €36 up to bib number 2,000, €39 from 2,001 to 3,000, and €42 beyond that; non-federated runners must also purchase a one-day insurance policy for €4 during registration. The course is entirely urban, completely flat, and certified by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, meaning your time carries official validity — in fact, it can be used to improve your starting corral at the legendary Behobia-San Sebastián, the city's flagship race. The route winds through the heart of Donostia: passing Plaza del Buen Pastor, the lively Gros neighborhood, Plaza Pío XII, and above all, running along La Concha Bay in both directions, offering one of the most beautiful views in the Basque Country over the Bay of Biscay. Runners familiar with the city agree that, pace permitting, this stretch by the sea is the most enjoyable part of the whole race, alongside the final approach near City Hall, designed with particular care by the organizers. The course record, set in its debut year, belongs to Ayad Lamdassem at 1:02:48, while Elena Loyo set the women's mark at 1:13:12 — benchmarks that draw increasingly strong international elite fields each year without losing the race's popular spirit.Bib pickup is organized well in advance and with plenty of flexibility: those who register before September 7th can choose from numerous pickup points across San Sebastián, Irún, Arrasate, Errenteria, Bilbao, Pamplona, Barcelona, Madrid, and even Anglet and Bordeaux in France, collecting their bib between September 30th and October 3rd during each store's business hours. For those who prefer the more convenient option, home delivery of the bib is also available for €15 (Spain and France only), or pickup directly at the "Welcome Zone" at San Sebastián City Hall, the Saturday before the race, from 3:00 to 7:30 pm. Changing the pickup point is possible until September 7th through the "My Registration" section. The participation kit includes the official Dare2B technical t-shirt — designed each year by Donostia-based illustrator Junio Arzak, who in 2026 marks his fourth consecutive year shaping this garment, with a retail value exceeding €25, inspired by iconic corners of the city such as La Concha's railing, the Kursaal, the Peine del Viento sculpture, and the lighthouse — plus the finisher medal for anyone who crosses the line. Along the course there are aid stations at km 5, 10, 15, and 20, served in compostable cups to cut down on plastic, and a recovery refreshment bag — liquids and solids — waiting at the finish. Official pacers are available for nine different target times (from 1:20 up to 2:30, the race's closing time limit), a gear-check service on race day from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm very close to the start, showers near La Concha Beach, live online runner tracking, and official race photos available afterward. And if the sporting celebration alone weren't enough, San Sebastián invites you to stay a little longer: a relaxed walk along La Concha, getting lost in the Old Town hunting for the city's best pintxos, or climbing Monte Igueldo for one last panoramic view of the bay, are the perfect way to cap off a race morning that combines top-level sport with one of the most beautiful urban settings in all of Spain.
