The IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia takes place on Sunday, April 18, 2027, with the swim start expected between 7:00 and 7:30 am. It's a prime time of year for triathlon: Valencia's spring offers mild, stable temperatures, around 18-22°C during the day, with Mediterranean water still cool (16-18°C), making a wetsuit advisable for both performance and thermal comfort.The race consists of three legs connecting three of the city's great icons. The swim (1.9 km, single loop) takes place in calm, protected Mediterranean waters off Valencia, with a great atmosphere and strong crowd support both entering and exiting the water. After the first transition comes the bike leg (90 km), considered one of the fastest courses in Spain: it starts flat along the coast, then climbs toward the Sierra Calderona — the only section with notable elevation in the whole race, around 700 meters of gain, with some ramps exceeding 8-10% gradient — before returning to the city. This is, without a doubt, the leg that most tests each athlete's ability to manage their effort.After the second transition comes the run (21.1 km), completely flat, covering two loops through the beautiful Jardines del Turia — the old riverbed, now a long linear urban park — with huge crowd support along the entire route. The finish line awaits at one of Spain's most spectacular and recognizable spots: the City of Arts and Sciences, with its futuristic architecture as a backdrop — a setting so iconic it has even served as a filming location for international productions like the third season of "Westworld."This is a race with a very international, very young participant profile: the 2027 edition will bring together over 3,300 triathletes, with an average age of 34.8 (the lowest in the event's history) and 39.25% Spanish participants — the highest percentage to date. More than half of entrants (55.6%) will be debuting at this distance, confirming Valencia as a hugely popular gateway into middle-distance triathlon. The event also awards qualifying slots for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, and features a top-tier professional field competing for a share of the prize purse.
