About the race
Some cities you run through; others you fly through. Every second Sunday of January, Valencia wakes to the buzz of thousands of runners gathering on the Paseo de la Alameda, between the Puente de la Exposición and the Puente de las Flores. The winter sun rises over the old Turia riverbed, the temperature is mild, the Mediterranean breeze barely stirs, and when Chimo Bayo's legendary "Hu-Ha!" rings out, the 10K Valencia begins: the fastest 10-kilometre race in the world and the first big date of the year for anyone dreaming of a personal best.Running in Valencia, the City of RunningFew cities in the world live running like Valencia. Its mild climate even in midwinter, its location practically at sea level and its broad avenues make it the perfect place to run fast. There are no climbs to break your rhythm and no hills to punish your legs: the terrain is flat, level and fast from start to finish. January mornings bring the conditions every runner dreams of: cool air, little wind and a whole city devoted to sport. That is why, year after year, thousands of runners travel from across Spain and from abroad to start their season in Valencia.A course designed to flyThe 10K Valencia course is certified and built for speed down to the last detail. Start and finish share the Paseo de la Alameda, and the route follows wide avenues with excellent tarmac and an almost completely flat profile, with only about a dozen metres of total elevation gain. The bends are gentle, the straights are long and there is plenty of room, so every runner can find their pace from the first metres and hold it, or even speed up, all the way to the finish. It is a course that rewards consistency, where a smart race plan turns into minutes saved. The race of recordsFew races on the planet can boast a record book like this. Valencia's streets have seen both 10 km road world records, Rhonex Kipruto's 26:24 and Agnes Jebet's 28:46 in 2024. At the 2026 edition, the race added Andreas Almgren's men's European record (26:45), Eilish McColgan's women's European record (30:08) and Said Mechaal's Spanish record (27:25). Holding five of the six major records, the 10K Valencia is part of the World Athletics international calendar and has been named the best 10K in Spain in recent editions. In 2026, 233 athletes broke 30 minutes and thousands of amateur runners set personal bests.A start for every runnerTo give everyone space and a smooth run, the start is organised in staggered, colour-coded waves based on accredited times. The world elite go first, followed by thousands of runners of every level, from those chasing sub-30 to those running their very first 10K. Each wave sets off with a clear road ahead, so you can run comfortably from the very first kilometre. An edition to rememberThe 19th edition takes place on Sunday 10 January 2027, with 16,000 bibs available, the largest field in the race's history. It is organised by Club Atletismo 10K Valencia with the support of Valencia City Council's Municipal Sports Foundation, an organisation internationally renowned for its excellence.Everything you need on race dayRegistration includes bib, timing chip and an official long-sleeve technical T-shirt by Kiprun. You can add the commemorative medal with personalised engraving and make a charitable donation that goes in full to the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Valencia. On race day there is a free cloakroom, water at km 5 and at the finish, a Team Village for clubs, a Women's Tent and parking for bikes and scooters. The race is broadcast live with commentary in Spanish and English, and online results and photos let you relive every stride. If you are chasing your best 10K, this is the place. Flat, level, fast and full of unique energy: the 10K Valencia is the perfect way to start the year flying.
