Trencacims Paüls Trail 54K 2027

Some mountain races are just races, and some are carried in the blood of a whole village. The Trencacims Paüls Trail 54K is the flagship race of the Trencacims Paüls, "l'Ultramarató de les Terres de l'Ebre". It crosses the heart of the Ports Natural Park from Paüls, a village of about 560 people in the Baix Ebre. General information: 2027 will be the 14th edition, and the organiser has announced the weekend of 2027-04-10 and 2027-04-11. The Trail is expected on Saturday 2027-04-10, as in the previous edition, which was held on a Saturday. Runners must be 18 or over, and the previous edition was limited to 200 runners. The race holds the FEEC Segell Verd and is listed by ITRA with 3 points. Why it is special: the Ultres Catalunya website voted it the best ultra in Catalonia in 2019 and 2024. It hosted the Spanish Ultra Championship in 2023, and in 2025 it counted towards the Copa Catalana de Curses d'Ultra Resistència. The 06:00 start, still in the dark and with fireworks, has become a tradition. In the organiser's words, "every kilometre is different from the last". Course: the race covers 54 km with about 4,000 m of elevation gain and a high point of 1,197 m. It starts in front of the Casal Municipal of Paüls and finishes in the village. - After climbing through the village to the cemetery, the course takes the GR 171 to Font de Montsagre (840 m) and crosses the narrow Pas de la Finella. - It then runs over Mola Grossa (1,044 m), Mola de Garí, Tossal d'Engrilló and Coll dels Atans. - It reaches Punta de l'Aigua (1,092 m), the "mythical summit" of the race, and continues via Coll del Pinar Ample and the Espina. - It drops to Alfara de Carles and returns to Paüls through Coll del Guix. There are 8 aid stations: Bassa de la Refoia, Marge del Vacarissal, Sant Roc, Eres, the Espina area, Alfara de Carles, Racó de la Vall and Font del Teix. Outside assistance is only allowed at Sant Roc and Alfara de Carles. Timetable: in the previous edition the start was at 06:00. The cut-offs were Sant Roc (km 20) at 4 h 45 min, Alfara (km 37) at 9 h 30 min and the finish at 14 h 30 min. There is a single mass start, with no start corral by finishing time. Registration and prices: in the previous edition registration opened on 2025-12-14 on RockTheSport and closed on 2026-04-06 or when bibs ran out. The fee was 75 € until 2026-02-15 and 85 € until the close. Prices and dates for 2027 have not yet been published. Mandatory gear: - windbreaker, trail shoes, cup, thermal blanket, energy food and a 1 L water reserve; - headlamp with spare batteries, red rear light at night, charged phone, whistle, cap or buff, backpack and leg coverage below the knee; - depending on the weather, also a waterproof jacket, a second thermal layer and gloves. Bib pickup: in the previous edition bib collection was on Friday from 17:00 to 20:00 and on race morning from 04:30 to 05:45. You must show ID and your federation licence if you have one, and a signed authorisation is needed to collect someone else's bib. There is no expo as such: bib pickup and the village atmosphere are the meeting point. Services: the fee includes aid stations, medical assistance, showers at the municipal pools, a runner's bag, insurance, a cloakroom at the finish, massage and a finisher gift. Live tracking is also available (LiveTrail in 2025). Bib exchange: the 2026 regulations did not allow a name change or bib transfer. They only allowed a change of distance until 2026-04-12 and refunded 75% until that date. No official waiting list has been announced.
