Mud, walls, ropes, weighted carries and burpees: the Spartan Beast Madrid 21K is part of the Madrid Spartan Weekend, the big Spartan obstacle race event in the Madrid region. It is Spartan's half-marathon format: 21 km and around 30 obstacles, a top-level endurance challenge. General information: - The 2027 Madrid Spartan Weekend takes place on 2027-05-08 and 2027-05-09 at Spartan Madrid, on Avenida de Madrid in San Agustín del Guadalix, about 40 minutes from the capital. - It is organised by Spartan, the world's best-known obstacle race brand. - It follows Spartan's global competition rules. - There are Elite, Age Group and Open waves. The Elite and Age Group categories are competitive and have prizes. Open is the more relaxed category, although runners are encouraged to follow the same rules. Why it is special: - It is the authentic Spartan format. There are mandatory obstacles and Pass/Fail obstacles: fail one and you do 30 burpees or a penalty loop. - The weekend lets you complete the Trifecta (Sprint, Super and Beast), "Spartan's ultimate challenge", in just two days. - The terrain is tough and varied: uneven dirt trails, unpredictable water crossings and thick grass. - There is a festival atmosphere all weekend, with a Kids race on Saturday afternoon. Course: the race covers about 21 km with around 30 obstacles. Spartan routes are not published in detail before the race, and training on the course before race day is prohibited. Typical obstacles include walls of various heights, Rope Climb, Monkey Bars, Multi-Rig, Spear Throw (30-burpee penalty), Bucket Carry, Sandbag Carry and barbed-wire crawls. You must wear your numbered headband visibly and the RFID chip on your wrist. Headphones and poles are prohibited; gloves are allowed. Timetable: the provisional schedule puts this race's starts on Saturday 2027-05-08: Elite at 08:30, Age Group at 08:45 and Open at 09:30, with the awards at 13:30. Each participant must start in their assigned wave and time. There is no start corral by finishing time, but heats by category and start time. Registration and prices: registration is on the Spartan website. The starting price is 199.98 € and rises as the date approaches. Passes (Season Pass and Trifecta Pass) give access to several races at a better price. Spartan accident insurance can be added. Bib pickup: bib collection and accreditation are at the festival site from 07:30. On Saturday you can collect until 17:00 and on Sunday until 14:00. There is no expo as such: the Spartan Festival, with the finish area and all-day atmosphere, is the meeting point. Services: in the Spartan format, finishers receive a finisher medal and T-shirt, and there are official aid stations on the course; the website does not yet detail the 2027 services. Timing is by chip, and there is an official video review before results are published. Tips: train grip strength, climbing and carries as well as running. Practise burpees, because if you fail an obstacle you will owe 30. Wear close-fitting clothes and trail shoes with good grip for mud and water. Bib exchange: under Spartan's Western Europe policy, you can transfer your ticket to another person from your account for 20 €, or switch to another event paying the difference, until the Wednesday before the event (2027-05-05).
