About the race
Some races are simply run; others stay with you forever. Just days before Christmas, when winter bathes the royal gardens in golden light and the Tagus flows quietly alongside, Aranjuez fills with runners for one of the best-loved events in the Madrid region: the Carrera Popular Villa de Aranjuez. On a Sunday morning, thousands of runners, families and fans turn the Royal Site into a celebration of grassroots running, set against a backdrop like no other.More than four decades of historyIn 2026 the race celebrates its 42nd edition, organised as always by Club Marathon Aranjuez. Over 42 years, generations of runners have grown up with it, and its quality and long tradition place it among Spain's most highly regarded 10K races. Every December it stays true to its roots: an organisation fully devoted to participants, a first-class runner's bag and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes every runner feel at home.A course through a World Heritage landscapeThe race's greatest treasure is its setting. The timed 10 km on a certified course runs through landscapes declared UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. The start is on Calle del Príncipe, and the course continues along Calle de las Moreras, Calle del Caramillar, Camino de las Aves a Sotomayor, Calle de Mariano el Artillero and Calle de la Reina before entering the Jardín del Príncipe and the historic gardens of the Royal Site. Running among centuries-old trees, grand avenues and the legacy of Spain's royal history is a truly unique experience. The return along Calle de la Reina, Calle Sóforas and Calle de las Moreras brings runners back to Calle del Príncipe, where the finish line awaits amid cheering crowds. Every kilometre is marked with signs on the ground, and the 1 hour 30 minute time limit gives everyone plenty of time to enjoy the course at their own pace.12:00 start, with a place for every runnerThe main race starts at 12:00, with corrals organised by target time so every runner has room from the very first metre. The elite corral is reserved for men under 35 minutes and women under 38 minutes, with a time accredited in a certified race. Runners aged 16 and over can take part; under-18s need authorisation from a parent or legal guardian. Participation is capped at 4,500 athletes, with trophies for the top three in each category, the overall standings and local runners, plus an award for the club with the most finishers.A celebration for the whole familyThe day begins at 10:00 with races for the youngest runners, from the 300 m Chupetines race to the 1,700 m cadet race, plus an inclusive Diversity race open to all, with gifts for every participant. While grown-ups race, children aged 3 to 12 can enjoy the play area near the start, with games and crafts.Everything designed around the runnerThe €19 entry includes a commemorative long-sleeve Joma technical T-shirt, runner's bag and accident insurance. There is a cloakroom at Colegio Vicente Aleixandre, showers at the Agustín Marañón sports centre and toilets near the start and finish. Bibs can be collected at the Runner's Expo at Centro Comercial El Deleite on Friday 18 (16:00–20:30) and Saturday 19 December (10:00–20:00). They can also be delivered by post or picked up on race day, a service reserved for the first 1,000 runners who request it. After the race, results and official photos let you relive every stride.Running in Aranjuez means closing the racing year surrounded by history, gardens and great people. A race with soul, in a place you will fall in love with.
