About the race
The gateway to Madrid's great mountain races: the Cross de la Pedriza 11K takes young runners from Canto Cochino, in the heart of La Pedriza, to the square of Manzanares el Real, among granite, streams and passes. It is the distance reserved for the under-17 and under-19 categories, a great chance to discover the mountains with the organisation of a historic race. General information: - Date: Sunday 2027-05-09. The previous edition, the 35th, was held on Sunday 2026-05-10. - Edition: it would be the 36th. - Organiser: RSEA Peñalara, with the Tierra Trágame club. The race is part of the Copa de Hierro, Spain's oldest mountain running league, dating back to 1923. - Course C: 11 km with 900 m of cumulative elevation gain. - Start: 10:15 in the previous edition, from Canto Cochino, with a transfer from the main start area beforehand. The finish is in the town hall square of Manzanares el Real. - Categories: under-17 (ages 15 and 16) and under-19 (ages 17 and 18). In the previous edition this distance was reserved for these categories. - Places are limited because the race runs almost entirely through the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. In the previous edition they sold out. Why it is special: - La Pedriza is one of the most spectacular granite landscapes in Europe, and running among its rock formations is a unique experience. - It is one of the oldest mountain races in Madrid, born from Carlos Soria's idea of a climbing cross. - In the previous edition it hosted the Madrid Sky Running Championship. - It is a race designed so that young runners can start in the mountains with full support. Course: it leaves Canto Cochino via Prado Peluca and the Collado Cabrón, returns to Canto Cochino and descends via Quebrantaherraduras, the Collado del Perro, the Camino de Peña Sacra and the Avenida de la Pedriza to the town hall square. There are mandatory checkpoints, and the track must be recorded on your watch or phone. The official courses are published on the Copa de Hierro website. Timetable: in the previous edition the under-17 and under-19 start was at 10:15 from Canto Cochino, with a transfer from the main start area beforehand. The organiser will confirm the 2027 times. There is no start corral by finishing time: runners line up by pace. Registration and prices: registration is on the Copa de Hierro website via RockTheSport. In the previous edition the prices were: - €12 for FMM federated runners. - €16 for non-federated runners. Platform fees are added to these prices. 2027 prices are still to be published. Bib pickup: in the previous edition it was on race morning, from 07:45 to 08:30, in Manzanares el Real. There is no expo, but the town hall square fills with mountain atmosphere. Mandatory gear: gloves and buff, phone, a hooded waterproof or windproof jacket in your size, thermal blanket, a bottle or hydration system or collapsible cup, and the track recorded on a GPS watch or phone.
