Ten and a half fast kilometres through the streets of El Ejido, in the heart of western Almería: the Ciudad de las Hortalizas 10.5K is the promotional race of this sustainable, family-friendly event. It is ideal for running hard or stepping up from shorter distances, with all the services of a big half marathon and the famous box of vegetables in the runner's bag. General information: - Date: Sunday 2027-05-09. The 19th edition was held on Sunday 2026-05-10, so 2027 would be the 20th. - Distance: 10.5 km. - Start and finish: Estadio Municipal de Santo Domingo, El Ejido (Almería). - Start: 09:00 in the previous edition, with the race closing at 11:15. - Places: 800 across the half marathon, 10.5 km and 5 km. - Organiser: El Ejido Municipal Sports Institute, with the Murgiverde Athletics Club. - A federation licence is not required. Runners born in 2010 or earlier may take part. - Urban circuit closed to traffic. Why it is special: - The runner's bag includes a box of vegetables, a nod to El Ejido, the great market garden of western Almería. - It is a sustainable race, with recycling bins after every aid station and at the finish. - Almería's May climate and a fast urban circuit make it ideal for chasing a personal best. - The top three men and women overall receive a medal. Course: It covers 10.5 km on an urban circuit closed to traffic, starting and finishing at the Estadio Municipal de Santo Domingo. There are three aid stations on the circuit and liquid and solid aid at the finish. The official courses are published on the El Ejido sports institute website. Timetable: in the previous edition all distances started at 09:00 and the race closed at 11:15. The school races were on Saturday afternoon. The organiser will confirm the 2027 times. No start corral by finishing time has been published: runners line up by pace. Registration and prices: registration is on imd.elejido.es or at the Casa del Deporte, until 12:00 on the Thursday before the race or until bibs run out. There is no on-site registration. In the previous edition the price was €12. 2027 prices are still to be published. Bib pickup: in the previous edition bib pickup was on Saturday from 17:00 to 20:00 and on Sunday from 07:30, at the Estadio Municipal, with ID. Someone else can collect it with a signed authorisation and a copy of your ID. There is no expo, but the stadium is full of atmosphere all weekend. Tips: Start at a controlled pace and push in the second half: the circuit is fast. Carry your bottle to the recycling bins and never drop it on the ground. Bib exchange: the rules do not cover a name change or bib change, and entries are only refunded in the cases provided by law. Do not assume a place can be transferred, and there are no official waiting lists. Alternatives to get a bib: register early, as there are only 800 places, and join the waiting list on Bibready with a bib alert.
