About the race
Imagine the last kilometre of a marathon running down Calle Don Jaime I, packed with people cheering, until the street opens up and the towers of the Basílica del Pilar appear in front of you. That is how the Zaragoza Marathon ends, and in 2027 it celebrates its 20th edition on Sunday 2027-04-18, in the same year that Zaragoza is European Capital of Sport. After breaking every participation record in 2026, the organisers want to go past 3,000 marathon runners for the first time. General information: the race is homologated by the RFEA, appears on the RFEA International II calendar and is timed by Cronochip Aragón. It is open to runners aged 18 or over and limited to 4,000 places. All registered runners are covered by civil liability and accident insurance, and the organisers recommend a medical check or stress test for anyone new to the distance. The men's course record is 2:11:39 and the women's 2:26:40, with a 1,000 € bonus for breaking them. Distance and course: the distance is 42.195 km, starting and finishing in Plaza del Pilar. The course introduced in 2026 is kept for 2027 because it proved faster and more comfortable, even in tough weather. From the start, runners head down Calle Don Jaime and along Paseo Echegaray to cross the Ebro on the Puente de Piedra and back on the Puente de Hierro. They then run to the Expo 2008 area, past the Pabellón Puente and the Aquarium, and cross the Puente del Tercer Milenio. The toughest climb, from Tenor Fleta up to the Canal Imperial, now comes early, between km 15 and km 17, instead of in the final third, and the old bike-lane section on the canal has been removed. After the Parque Grande José Antonio Labordeta, the halfway point comes on a downhill towards the centre, past the Plaza de Toros de la Misericordia and along Paseo de la Constitución. The second half goes through Plaza Paraíso, a double pass on Paseo de la Independencia, Plaza de España, Plaza Aragón and El Coso, then back towards the river past the Mercado Central and the Roman Walls around km 38 and 39, before the final stretch on Calle Don Jaime I and the finish on the stones of Plaza del Pilar. Why this race is special: it is a big-city marathon with a human scale, far from the overcrowded model, with a monumental route through two thousand years of history, great crowds in the centre, competitive prices and affordable accommodation. It is a good choice both for a first marathon and for a personal best. Schedule and start corrals: the start is at 08:30 on 2027-04-18 in ordered corrals (cajones). The time limit is 5 hours, with cut-offs at halfway at 11:00, at km 30 at 12:05 and at km 35 at 12:40, based on a pace of 7:05 per km. The absolute awards start at 11:30 and the age-group awards at 12:00. Bib pickup: bibs are collected at Hotel Hiberus (Paseo de los Puentes 2, Sala Canariensis) on 2027-04-16 from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00, and on 2027-04-17 from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00. There is no bib pickup on race day. Bring your registration confirmation or ID; another person can collect your bib with your confirmation or a photo of your ID. Services: official T-shirt, finisher medal, gels in the runner's bag, water at km 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 and at the finish, solid food from the second half of the race, pacers for 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00 and 4:15, support skaters in the last 10 km, cloakroom, showers and changing rooms at the Pabellón Deportivo Tenerías, physiotherapy at the finish, medical service, entertainment along the course, race photos and an online diploma with your official and net time. Prize money for the top three men and women is 2,100 €, 1,400 € and 1,000 €. Registration and prices: registration (inscripciones) is online at the official website, and prices include a 5% management fee: 40 € for the first 200 entries or until 2026-08-30, 45 € from 2026-08-31 to 2026-10-18, 50 € from 2026-10-19 to 2026-12-13, 55 € from 2026-12-14 to 2027-03-07 and 65 € from 2027-03-08 until registration closes. Zaragoza Marathon name change
Bib transfer and name change are allowed at the Zaragoza Marathon: the official rules permit a change of bib holder (cambio de titular) until 2027-04-04, through the official procedure and with the organiser's approval. The entry fee is not refunded unless you bought the optional cancellation insurance at registration. Unofficial transfers lead to the bib being cancelled and the original holder may be banned for four years. This means you can arrange a bib exchange on Bibready with another runner and then complete the official name change before 2027-04-04. If the race is full, join the waiting list on Bibready by activating a bib alert for the Zaragoza Marathon to be notified when a runner releases a place.
