The 71 km Individual March of La Desértica is one of the most demanding and emblematic endurance events in Andalusia, organized by La Legión and held between the cities of Almería and Roquetas de Mar. This long‑distance challenge combines physical toughness, mental resilience and the unmistakable atmosphere created by military precision and thousands of supporters along the route. The race begins at the historic Puerta de Purchena, in the heart of Almería, where participants gather from early morning to enter the starting corrals. From the very first kilometers, the route alternates between urban stretches and the characteristic semi‑desert terrain of the province, gradually leading marchers into a landscape marked by dry riverbeds, rugged hills and long ascents. With 1,632 meters of elevation gain, the course demands sustained effort, especially in the central section, where the terrain becomes more technical and the climbs more pronounced. The maximum altitude of the route reaches 1,753 meters, offering panoramic views that contrast sharply with the coastal start and finish. Participants have a generous 16‑hour time limit, allowing both experienced endurance athletes and determined long‑distance walkers to complete the challenge. Along the route, the organization provides a network of well‑distributed aid stations, each offering hydration, food and medical support. The event also includes a drop‑bag service, enabling participants to send personal items to an intermediate point and to the finish line. Bags must be delivered during the race‑bib collection hours or at the start area, always accompanied by the official runner card, which is required for identification and retrieval. One of the most valued optional services is the GPS live‑tracking device, which allows family and friends to follow the participant’s progress in real time through TrackTheRace. The device is collected at the runner expo or at the start area and must be returned at the finish line. A refundable deposit is required, and participants are responsible for the device in case of loss or damage. The finish line awaits on Avenida Juan Carlos I in Roquetas de Mar, where a large crowd gathers to welcome the marchers after their long journey. The final kilometers, already within the urban area, are filled with spectators, volunteers and military personnel who encourage participants until the very last step.
