About the race
From the beach to the summit in a single morning: the Hermano Pedro Vertical is a vertical mountain race linking the south coast of Tenerife with Vilaflor de Chasna, the highest municipality in Spain. The 22 km race starts in El Médano, almost at sea level, and finishes in Plaza Hermano Pedro in Vilaflor, after about 1,500 metres of elevation gain. General information: - The second edition will be held on Saturday 2027-05-15, on a single day. - It is organised by Canaryrun, which also handles timing and results, with the support of the town councils of Granadilla de Abona and Vilaflor de Chasna. - The 22 km can be run solo or in pairs. Pairs must stay together, no more than 5 metres apart at checkpoints and at the finish. - Runners must be 18 or over. Why it is special: - It is one of the few races that literally take you from the sea to the mountains. The lowest point of the course is about 3 metres and the highest is around 1,500. - The finish is in the square dedicated to Saint Brother Pedro, who was born in Vilaflor, in the heart of Spain's highest municipality. - The landscape changes completely on the way up: from the dunes and sea of El Médano to the pine forests and summit feel of southern Tenerife. - It is a vertical format of sustained effort, where elevation counts as much as distance. Course: the race covers 22 km with about 1,500 m of elevation gain, from Plaza de El Médano (Calle Hermano Pedro 2C) to Plaza Hermano Pedro in Vilaflor. It mixes trails, minor roads and forest tracks, with urban sections at the start and finish. It is well marked, with checkpoints and two aid stations. Carrying the GPX track is mandatory: it can be downloaded from the private area of the website and works with sports watches and Wikiloc. The organiser does not accept complaints about going off course. Timetable: the start is at 09:00 from El Médano. There is a checkpoint at Charco del Pino with a 3-hour limit from the start, and the overall time limit is 5 hours according to the regulations. Some sources mention 5 h 30 min, so it is worth confirming with the organiser. There is a single start, with no start corral by finishing time. Registration and prices: registration is managed by Canaryrun through RockTheSport and closes on 2027-05-08 or when places run out. - From 2026-11-20: 27 €. - From 2027-01-01: 32 €. - Until 2027-05-08: 35 €. - On RockTheSport, pairs registration is listed at 54 €.
