About the race
Gaudí's modernist façades, the great avenues of the Eixample and the Mediterranean shining along the seafront make the Zurich Marató de Barcelona one of the most spectacular city marathons in Europe, now in its forty-eighth edition. After a record-breaking 2026, with 32,000 runners and one of the fastest times in women's marathon history, set by Fotyen Tesfay on her debut, Barcelona is now ranked among the fastest marathon courses in the world, alongside Chicago, Berlin and London. The 42.195 km course starts on Passeig de Gràcia, next to Plaça de Catalunya, and finishes under the Arc de Triomf, on a mostly flat urban circuit on asphalt. The first half runs through the heart of the city: Gran Via, Aragó and València, past Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, then across to the Pont de Calatrava, down Meridiana and back along Mallorca past the Sagrada Família around km 13. The second half descends Paral·lel toward the Columbus monument and Port Vell, crosses Barceloneta and the Ciutadella area, and runs along the coast to Diagonal Mar and the Fòrum before heading back through Poblenou and up Marina and Roger de Flor to the finish line on Passeig de Sant Joan. The route offers gentle rolling sections rather than real climbs, so a steady, well-managed pace pays off, especially on the open stretches by the sea between km 27 and 35. The race starts at 08:30 on Sunday 14 March 2027, with pace-based start corrals, a time limit of 6 hours and 35 pacers covering seven target times from 2:45 to 4:30. The entry includes a technical t-shirt and a finisher medal, with aid stations provided by Aigües de Barcelona and 47 entertainment points along the course to keep the atmosphere alive from start to finish. Bibs are collected at the Expo Sports runners' fair on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 March, and runners must be 18 or older on race day.
Transfer deadline
Time left for name change
Barcelona Marathon name change
Bibs can be transferred to another runner through the official registration management platform until 12 February 2027: access your registration, select "Change of holder" and enter the new runner's details. The new runner receives an email to complete the registration and pay through the platform (payment is never made directly between runners). Once the payment is completed, the original runner receives a refund of their entry fee minus a €20 management fee. If the automatic refund fails, it is processed by bank transfer with an additional €10 fee. Free or reduced-rate entries are personal and non-transferable. Runners who registered through Finishers must arrange the change directly with them. Transferring or selling a bib outside the official process may invalidate participation and lead to a 4-year ban for both the person transferring and the person receiving the bib.
