Girona Greenways 30K 2027

Thirty kilometres from the cork oak country of Cassà de la Selva to the Mediterranean, along an old railway line turned greenway: the Girona Greenways 30K is the perfect long run for spring, and a great step for anyone preparing a first marathon. It takes place on Sunday 2027-04-25, in the 14th edition of the Marató Vies Verdes, with the finish at the Palau d'Esports i Congressos in Platja d'Aro, on the Costa Brava. General information: the race is organised by Maratón Vías Verdes with Nutrisport as main partner and CronoExagon chip timing. It is open to runners aged 16 or over on race day; under-18s need authorisation from a legal guardian. All runners have civil liability and accident insurance. In 2026 the event gathered about 3,500 runners, a record. Distance and course: the distance is 30 km on the Ruta del Carrilet, the greenway that follows the old Girona to Sant Feliu de Guíxols railway. The start is in Cassà de la Selva and the route heads east through Llagostera and Santa Cristina d'Aro to Platja d'Aro, going from the inland hills to the sea. About 80% of the course is compacted dirt track without stones, combined with asphalt, so mixed running shoes are recommended; there are no singletrack trails. The profile has a net descent of about 132 m and a difficulty rating of 3 out of 5. Countdown markers tell you how many kilometres are left, and aid stations every 5 km offer water, isotonic drinks, fruit, energy bars, nuts and sweets. Why this race is special: few races offer a 30 km distance, and even fewer on such a quiet, green and gently descending route. It is an ideal test before a spring or autumn marathon, with the reward of finishing by the sea. Schedule: the start is at 09:00 on 2027-04-25. The time limit is 3 hours 45 minutes, based on a pace of 7:30 min/km, and the race closes at 12:45. Runners who fall behind may continue outside the competition, following traffic rules. There are no start corrals (cajones). Bib pickup and transport: bibs are collected at the Palau d'Esports i Congressos in Platja d'Aro on 2027-04-24 from 15:00 to 20:00 and on race day from 06:30 to 08:30, with photo ID and your registration proof. From 2027-04-21 bibs can also be collected at partner shops in Mataró, Barcelona, Vic, Figueres and Girona. Transport to the start is not included: you can buy the bus from Platja d'Aro, which leaves at 07:30 for the 30K and includes bag transport to the finish. Old clothes worn at the start are collected for donation 5 minutes before the gun. Services: finisher T-shirt, finisher medal, aid stations, chip timing, professional photo and video, physiotherapy at the finish, showers, supervised wardrobe and free parking. Trophies go to the top five men and women overall and the winner of each age group. Registration and prices: registration (inscripciones) closes 48 hours before the race or when bibs run out. Prices rise as bibs are sold, from 16.99 € for the first 40 bibs to 33.99 €, 39.99 €, 45.99 €, 52.99 € and 59.99 € for the last 30, plus management fees. The standard fee includes a 100% refund if you cancel at least 30 days before the race, and an optional extension allows a 75% refund up to 10 days before. Alternatives to get a bib: bib transfer and name change are allowed by email until 2027-04-22. If bibs sell out, activate a bib alert for the Girona Greenways 30K and join the waiting list on Bibready, where you can meet runners who can no longer take part and arrange a bib exchange, then request the official name change before the deadline.
