About the race

FUENCALIENTE DE LA PALMA, SPAIN

The event

Volcanoes, Canary pine forest, the summits of the Caldera de Taburiente and the Atlantic always in sight: the Transvulcania Half Marathon 25K is part of Transvulcania, the race that made La Palma one of the world capitals of trail running. General information: - The 17th edition of Transvulcania runs from 2027-05-06 to 2027-05-08, and this race takes place on Saturday 2027-05-08. - It is promoted by the Cabildo de La Palma and organised by the public company SODEPAL. - There are 800 places. - No previous race is required, although a similar race in the last 12 months is recommended. There is a Junior category for 16- and 17-year-olds with parental authorisation (30 €; 20 € for residents). Why it is special: - It is a world-class race, with runners from more than fifty countries. - When registration opened for 2027, more than 2,000 people signed up in under 24 hours. - It runs almost entirely on La Palma's trail network, in a Biosphere Reserve with unique volcanic scenery. - Top finishers earn prizes of up to 800 €. Poles are banned for the first 7.67 km. Course: Transvulcania's routes are published with their GPX tracks on the official website. This one covers 24.8 km with 2,097 m of elevation gain and 689 m of loss, starting at Faro de Fuencaliente and finishing at Refugio de El Pilar (El Paso). It starts at the Fuencaliente lighthouse at sea level and climbs the Ruta de los Volcanes in the opposite direction to usual, crossing a lava field and the volcanic cones of southern La Palma to Las Deseadas, at 1,827 m, before descending to the Refugio de El Pilar. It is less tough than the ultra, but it packs more than 2,000 m of climbing into less than 25 km. At dawn, people from Fuencaliente and all over the island come out to cheer the runners. There are aid stations at Los Canarios (km 7.4) and Las Deseadas (km 17), plus the finish at El Pilar. The organiser recommends carrying the track on a GPS watch. Timetable: the start is at 07:30 on 2027-05-08 and the time limit is 6.5 hours (finish closes at 14:00). Anyone who does not leave a checkpoint before its cut-off is out of the race. There is no start corral by finishing time: it is a single start. Registration and prices: registration is on the official website, with online payment only. The general fee is 55 € in the first tier, until the first 500 places are taken, and 75 € after that. La Palma residents pay 35 € and 55 €. To get the resident discount you must prove you were born on La Palma or have been registered there for at least two years. Once places sell out, an official reserve list opens. Bib pickup: bib collection runs from 2027-05-05 to 2027-05-07, at a place and times to be announced by the organiser. Only the runner can collect it, with ID or passport, and authorisations are not accepted. No bibs are handed out at the start line. During race week, Los Llanos de Aridane becomes the hub of the Transvulcania atmosphere, although no specific expo has been announced. Mandatory gear: a thermal blanket, a charged phone switched on, a reusable cup or bottle and a whistle. Depending on the weather, a cold or heat kit may be activated. Services: - Drinks and food at the aid stations. - Transport to the start and from the finish. - Transfer of your personal bag from the start to the finish. - Chip and/or GPS timing. - Accident insurance. - A runner's bag with a commemorative gift. - A finisher medal for anyone who finishes within the time limit. - At the main finish in Los Llanos de Aridane there is physiotherapy, podiatry and showers. Bib exchange: registration is personal and non-transferable, and passing on a bib is punished with disqualification and a two-edition ban. You can, however, change distance or withdraw with a partial refund: 80% until 2026-12-31 and 50% until 2027-04-08. In short, no name change or bib change is possible, so the waiting lists (the official one and Bibready's) are the only way to get a place once it sells out. Alternatives to get a bib: if you didn't get a place, join the official reserve list. You can also join the waiting list on Bibready with a bib alert to stay up to date. Bib exchange on Bibready is not possible for this race. FAQ: - When is it? On 2027-05-08 at 07:30. - How much climbing is there? 2,097 m of gain over 24.8 km. - What is the time limit? 6.5 hours (finish closes at 14:00). - Can I transfer my bib? Transvulcania Half Marathon 25K name change

The Transvulcania Half Marathon 25K does not allow a name change or bib transfer: registration is personal and non-transferable, bibs are only handed to the registered runner with ID (no authorisations), and passing a bib to someone else means disqualification and a two-edition ban for both runners. For that reason a bib exchange on Bibready is not possible for this race. What you can do is change to another distance (paying or being refunded the difference) or cancel: 80% is refunded until 2026-12-31, 50% until 2027-04-08 at 12:00, and nothing after that. Once places sell out, the organiser runs an official reserve list to fill withdrawals. If you're looking for a place, besides the official list you can join the waiting list on Bibready by activating a bib alert for the Transvulcania Half Marathon 25K, to be notified of news about the race.
