About the race
Spring in the southwest of Tenerife smells of almond blossom and volcanic earth, and on 2027-04-25 the trails above Tamaimo fill with runners for the 15th edition of the Almonds and Volcanoes Trail 21K. The race crosses the mid and high slopes of Santiago del Teide, a landscape of terraces, almond trees, pine forest and lava fields at the foot of Teide, and it is one of the classic trail races on the island. General information: the race is organised by Santiago del Teide Town Council, with the Pancracio Socas García Sports Complex and Juego Limpio collaborating and Canaryrun in charge of timing and results. It is open to runners aged 16 or over (under-18s need signed permission from a parent or guardian) and can be run individually or in pairs; pairs must start, pass every control and finish together. The 21K counts towards the SERIES K21 championship (KSeries Canarias). Distance and course: the distance is 21 km with about 798 m of elevation gain, between 562 m and 1,232 m of altitude. Start and finish are in Plaza Abelardo González in Tamaimo. The course runs on marked trails through the upper part of the municipality, with a key control in Arguayo: runners who pass it after three hours are disqualified and taken to the finish by the organiser. Along the way there are three aid stations, but no plastic cups, so you must carry your own container. Mandatory gear is a survival blanket, a mobile phone and the bib with chip, and hiking poles are allowed. GPX tracks are available on the Canaryrun website. Why this race is special: it combines the gentle beauty of almond trees with the raw force of volcanic Tenerife, on a course that is demanding but accessible, with views over the west coast and Teide. Its local spirit is strong: the whole town gets involved, there are trophies for the best local runners, and residents run for free if they register before 2027-03-31. In 2022 Antonio Martín set a course record of 1:43:27, and in 2026 the winners were Agustín David Reyes and Myriam Báez. Schedule: the start is at 09:00 on 2027-04-25. Runners who arrive more than 15 minutes after the start are disqualified, and start times may change. There is no start corral (cajón); everyone starts together from the square. Bib pickup: bibs are collected on race day, 2027-04-25, from 07:30 in the bib tent at the start area, with a separate queue for each distance. Bring your registration confirmation or QR code on your phone; you can collect another runner's bib with their confirmation. There is no expo. Services: insurance, technical T-shirt in the size chosen at registration, finisher medal for everyone, aid stations, wardrobe tent, chip timing, trophies for the top three men and women and the top three pairs, and medals for category podiums. Registration and prices: registration (inscripciones) is open on RockTheSport from 2026-09-02 to 2027-04-18 at 23:59, with no entries after that date. Individual price: 25 € until 2026-10-31, 30 € until 2026-12-31 and 35 € until 2027-04-18. Pairs: 50 €, 60 € and 70 €. Management fees are not included.
