About the race

CASTELLON, SPAIN

The event

Midnight, an athletics track in Castelló and six hundred headlamps pointing towards the mountains: the start of the Penyagolosa Trails CSP 106K is one of the most special moments in Spanish ultra trail. The CSP (Castelló-Penyagolosa) links the Mediterranean coast with the sacred mountain of the Valencian region, Penyagolosa, along old paths and pilgrim routes, and on 2027-04-24 it celebrates its 15th edition. General information: the race is organised by Club Marató i Mitja with the support of the Diputació de Castelló, the Generalitat Valenciana, local clubs and the towns along the route. It is a UTMB Index race in the 100K category, awards 5 ITRA points and in the previous edition it was also a Western States qualifier. The event holds the UNE-EN ISO 20121 sustainability certification, which it obtained in 2017 as the first international trail race to do so, and it donates 1 € per finisher to the Spanish Cancer Association. Distance and course: the distance is 106 km with 5,600 m of elevation gain and 4,400 m of loss. The course starts at the athletics track of Universitat Jaume I in Castelló de la Plana and climbs inland through Borriol, Bassa, Les Useres, Atzeneta del Maestrat, Benafigos, Culla, Sant Bertomeu, Vistabella del Maestrat, Xodos and El Collao, before finishing at the sanctuary of Sant Joan de Penyagolosa, at about 1,280 m, in the heart of the Penyagolosa Natural Park. Part of the route follows the Camí dels Pelegrins de Les Useres, an ancient pilgrimage path. Expect a long night section, dry riverbeds, stony Mediterranean trails, villages of the Maestrat and a final stretch through pine and oak forest. Why this race is special: few ultras tell a story like this one, from the sea to the mountain, from midnight to the next day, following the steps of centuries of pilgrims. The atmosphere in the villages, cheering through the night, is unforgettable. Schedule and cut-offs: in the previous edition the start was at 00:00 and the time limit was 25 h 30 min. Runners must leave each control before its cut-off: Borriol 01:30, Bassa 04:25, Les Useres 06:10, Atzeneta 08:00, Benafigos 09:45, Culla 14:00, Sant Bertomeu 16:30, Vistabella 18:15, Xodos 21:00, El Collao 23:00 and Sant Joan 01:30 the next day. There is no start corral (cajón); access to the track closes 15 minutes before the start and runners are asked to arrive one hour early. Personal assistance is only allowed at Borriol, Les Useres, Atzeneta, Culla, Vistabella and Xodos. A medical certificate is required, uploaded before the deadline set by the organiser. Mandatory gear includes a headlamp with spare batteries and a red rear light, a survival blanket, 1 litre of liquid capacity, a whistle, a charged mobile phone, a backpack, long trousers and a hooded windproof jacket. Bib pickup and expo: bibs are collected at the ExpoTrail on the Friday before the race; in the previous edition it was open from 11:00 to 21:00. You need photo ID, and bibs are not handed out at the start. Each CSP runner can drop two 20-litre bags of life at the ExpoTrail: one goes to Culla and the other to the finish. Services: a commemorative technical T-shirt, gift bag, finisher medal, photo report, live tracking, liquid and solid aid stations, a full meal at the finish, hot showers, bag transport, medical team, transport from withdrawal points, return transport from the finish to the start and a free shuttle for family and supporters. Total prize money is 20,000 €. Registration and prices: registration (inscripciones) works through pre-registration and a lottery, with direct access for loyal runners, podium finishers, time standards and the UTMB/ITRA ranking. In the previous edition there were 600 places, pre-registration ran from 2025-11-20 to 2025-12-08, the lottery took place on 2025-12-12 and the price was 145 €. Runners cannot enter both lotteries. The 2027 dates will be announced in the coming months. Alternatives to get a bib: bibs are personal and non-transferable, there is no official bib transfer or name change, and the organiser has had no waiting list since 2015, so the lottery is the only way in. Activate a bib alert for the Penyagolosa Trails CSP 106K and join the waiting list on Bibready to be notified when pre-registration opens. On Bibready you can also meet runners and find bib exchange opportunities for other races where the organiser allows them. FAQ. When is the Penyagolosa Trails CSP 2027? Penyagolosa Trails CSP 106K name change

Bib transfer and name change are NOT allowed at the Penyagolosa Trails CSP 106K: every bib, chip and wristband is personal and non-transferable, and any change or transfer leads to disqualification and a ban from future editions. There is therefore no official bib transfer, no name change and no bib exchange on Bibready for this race. The organiser has had no official waiting list since 2015 and uses overbooking instead. In the previous edition refunds were 80% (minus a 10% admin fee) until 2026-02-15, 50% (minus 10%) from 2026-02-16 to 2026-03-01 and none afterwards. To find out when pre-registration and the lottery open, use the waiting list on Bibready by activating a bib alert for the Penyagolosa Trails CSP 106K.
