About the race
The Valladolid Half Marathon needs no introduction in Spanish popular athletics: with its 37th edition in 2026, it has been running uninterrupted for over three and a half decades, making it one of the most veteran half marathons in Castile and León, and in 2025 it was named Best Sports Event in Valladolid, an award few popular races can claim on their résumé.The course is practically a guided tour through the city's historic centre: it starts on Calle Miguel Íscar and, after a single, completely flat lap certified by the RFEA (Spanish Athletics Federation), finishes at the Paseo Central del Campo Grande, Valladolid's great green lung, famous among locals for its peacocks and its almost tame squirrels, which unknowingly become privileged witnesses to thousands of finish-line moments every year. The race takes place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 10:00am, with a 2-hour-30-minute time limit. One detail that sets this race apart from almost every other one we've covered so far: here, officially transferring bib ownership IS allowed. While in Berlin, São Paulo, Bronchales, or the KLM Norte Sur the bib is strictly non-transferable, Valladolid has a formal process (until September 15, via email, for a 5€ admin fee) to hand it over to someone else — making registration a far more flexible asset than is typical in this kind of event. That flexibility hasn't stopped it from being, year after year, one of the fastest-selling races for its 3,200 available bibs: for the 2026 edition, registration has already closed and the waiting list is full. The organisers have paid particular attention to both the start and the finish. At the start, runners are sorted into corrals by qualifying time: Corral A is reserved exclusively for elite runners under 1h20min, who must submit proof of a recent qualifying time at another certified half marathon to be placed there — adding a level of competitive seriousness not often seen in a "popular" race. And at the finish, once you cross the line, you enter a fenced security zone where the finisher medal, the post-race refreshments, the medical services, and physiotherapy tents all coexist in the same space — a concentration of services few races of this size offer in such an integrated way.Valladolid also has a literary past that few outside runners know about: the first part of Don Quixote was printed and published here in 1605, and the city served as the capital of Spain during the reign of Philip III. Today, it also holds the UNESCO title of City of Film, so finishing the Half Marathon at Campo Grande is, in a sense, crossing the line in a city with just as much history behind it as kilometres ahead of every runner that September Sunday.
