About the race
Sforza Castle at dawn, Milan cathedral a few steps away and thousands of runners filling the avenues: the Stramilano Half Marathon is one of Italy's best-loved races and a historic fixture of European running. In 2027 it celebrates its 54th edition, starting and finishing at Piazza Castello on a fast course through central Milan. General information: - Date: Sunday 2027-03-21. - Edition: 54th. - Start and finish: Piazza Castello, Milan. - Start: 08:30 (in the previous edition the last two sectors started at 08:45). - Distance: 21.097 km, a competitive race under FIDAL and World Athletics rules. - Time limit: 3 h 30 min, with cut-offs at km 10 (1 h 30 min) and km 15 (2 h 15 min). - Organiser: Stramilano Running Club. Why it is special: - It is one of Italy's oldest popular races, with more than half a century of history. - In the previous edition the event brought together more than 62,500 people across all distances. - The course passes through Milan's historic centre and is fast and flat. - There are pacers for several target times. Course: It covers 21.097 km through the streets of Milan, starting and finishing at Piazza Castello next to Sforza Castle. There are aid stations under World Athletics rules and timing points at km 5, 10 and 15. The courses are published on the official website. Timetable: The start is at 08:30. Each runner is assigned a start corral by bib colour, based on their declared time: from the red sector (under 1:20) to the white one (over 2:00). If you do not give a time, you are placed in the last corral. Registration and prices: Registration is online on Endu from 15 June 2026. In the previous edition prices ranged from €30 to €50 depending on the date, plus fees, and there was a €100 VIP Pass. Important for foreign runners: the competitive race requires a federation licence or Runcard and a sports medical certificate valid in Italy; foreign runners without a licence can take part in the non-competitive category with a signed waiver. Fees are not refunded. Bib pickup: In the previous edition it was at the Stramilano Centre in Piazza del Duomo during the four days before, from 10:00 to 20:00. Runners from outside the province of Milan could also collect it on race morning. The Stramilano Centre works as the race expo. Services: - Official t-shirt and race bag. - Medal for finishers. - Aid stations on the course. - Free bag drop at the Athletes' Village in Piazza Castello. - Pacers. - Downloadable diploma. Getting there: Milan has three airports and high-speed rail connections. Piazza Castello is next to the Cairoli and Cadorna metro stations. On race day there are road closures in the centre, so public transport is the best option. Tips: If you are travelling from abroad, prepare your medical certificate early or choose the non-competitive category. Give your best time when registering so you start in the right corral. Bib change: In the previous edition the entry could be transferred to another athlete (or to the next edition) until about 11 days before: free with the €5 SMART option or for €15. After that no name changes are allowed. The bib cannot be handed over without this procedure. Alternatives to get a bib: Register early, as the previous edition sold out, and join the waiting list on Bibready with a bib alert. There are no official waiting lists. Within the transfer period, a bib exchange on Bibready helps you find a replacement. FAQ: - When is it? On 2027-03-21 at 08:30. - Where does it start?
