The Speed DesafiOSOmiedo (SDS) is the most explosive distance of the event: 24 intense kilometers that condense the essence of the Somiedo Natural Park into a short, technical and demanding mountain course. The start in Valle del Lago already sets the tone: mountain trails, sharp elevation changes and a wild environment where the terrain dictates the pace from the very first meters. The opening section mixes steep ramps with runnable segments, forcing runners to manage their effort wisely. It’s a zone where rhythm breaks quickly: short but very intense climbs, narrow passages and uneven terrain that never lets you relax. As the race progresses, the route becomes more alpine, with spectacular views and sections where the landscape rewards the effort. The main challenge comes in the central part, with a sustained climb that accumulates most of the 1,038 m of positive elevation gain. This is where the real toughness of the race appears: a section to power-hike, regulate and avoid mistakes. After reaching the high point, a long and technical descent begins toward Pola de Somiedo, with 1,550 m of negative elevation that punish the legs and require full concentration. It’s fast, beautiful, and extremely demanding if you arrive fatigued. The SDS is perfect for explosive runners who enjoy technical mountain terrain and short but tough distances. It’s not an “easy” race: it requires strength, agility and smart pacing. But in return, it offers a spectacular route, pure Somiedo, with a vibrant finish in Pola de Somiedo, where the event atmosphere peaks.
