About the race
The Vuelta al Aneto – 55K is one of the flagship races of the Trail Aneto-Posets, a high-mountain loop that circles the Maladeta massif and offers a truly alpine experience in the heart of the Aragonese Pyrenees. Starting and finishing in Benasque, the course combines sections of technical mountain trail, forest tracks, boulder fields, snow patches and high passes above 2,800 meters, making it a demanding physical and technical challenge. The route covers 55 km with 3,630 m of ascent and 3,630 m of descent, including 27.5 km above 2,000 meters. Terrain variety is one of its defining features: 8.8 km of track, 24.2 km of trail, and 15.9 km off-trail, crossing glacial cirques, alpine lakes and rugged high-mountain landscapes where technique and endurance are essential. From Benasque, runners climb toward the La Renclusa Refuge, passing the iconic Forau d’Aigualluts and the Barrancs valley before reaching legendary passes such as the Salenques Pass (2,809 m). The route continues toward the Cap de Llauset and Coronas refuges, ascends the Tuca d’Estiba Freda (2,691 m) and crosses the Sierra Negra before returning to Benasque, completing a spectacular loop around the Aneto, the highest peak in the Pyrenees. The organization provides 5 aid stations and 5 medical points strategically located along the course. Several return points are available in case of withdrawal, such as Baños de Benasque, Llanos del Hospital or the Coronas Refuge. Due to the altitude and technical nature of the terrain, cut-off times are strict, with the race closing at 03:00 on Sunday, ensuring participant safety. The event schedule includes bib collection from Friday, pre-race control early Saturday morning and the official start at 07:00. The first runners are expected to arrive around 14:00, with the awards ceremony taking place on Sunday alongside the other races of the weekend. The Vuelta al Aneto is a demanding, technical and breathtaking race, perfect for experienced mountain runners seeking a true alpine challenge in one of the most spectacular environments in the Pyrenees.
