About the race
Black lava, La Geria vineyards sunk in volcanic ash and the Atlantic wind blowing at the Mirador del Río: IRONMAN Lanzarote is one of the IRONMAN races with the most history and character in the world. In 2027 it celebrates its 35th edition, starting at Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen with a full lap of the island by bike before the final marathon by the sea. General information: - Date: Saturday 2027-05-15. - Edition: 35th. - Place: Puerto del Carmen (Tías, Lanzarote). - Start: in the previous edition, professionals at 07:00 and age groups at 07:10, with a rolling start. - Distances: 3.8 km swim, 180.2 km bike and 42.2 km run. - Format: non-drafting long-distance triathlon. - Organiser: The IRONMAN Group, supported by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Canary Islands Government, Turismo Lanzarote and Tías Town Council. - Participants: in the previous edition, more than 1,000 triathletes from over 70 countries. - Qualification: it offers slots for the IRONMAN World Championship. - Minimum age: 18 on race day. Why it is special: - It has been held on the island since 1992 and is one of the longest-running IRONMAN races in Europe. - The bike course laps Lanzarote through Timanfaya National Park, La Geria and the Mirador del Río. - The wind and volcanic landscapes make every edition a test of strength and mind. - 2027 opens a new chapter with The IRONMAN Group as organiser, after 34 editions with Club La Santa. Courses: - Swim: 3.8 km in two laps with an Australian exit at Playa Grande, Puerto del Carmen. The water is usually around 20 °C. - Bike: 180.2 km in a single lap of the island, through Timanfaya, La Geria and the Mirador del Río. There is often strong crosswind; the organiser advises against wheels deeper than 50 mm. - Run: 42.2 km in three laps along Avenida de las Playas, finishing in Puerto del Carmen. Detailed courses are on the official IRONMAN website. Timetable: in the previous edition professionals started at 07:00 and age groups from 07:10, in a rolling start. There is no start corral by finishing time as in running races: each triathlete lines up by expected swim time. The organiser will publish the 2027 times in the athlete guide. Registration and prices: 2027 registration opened in June 2026 on the official IRONMAN website. General entry costs €860.86, including fees and IGIC tax, and the price rises as each tier sells out. Athletes who register in the last 60 days do not receive personalised items. Bib pickup: registration is in person in Puerto del Carmen in the days before the race, with ID or passport. The bib is assigned at check-in. There is an expo and athlete activities during those days. Services: - Aid stations on the bike and run. - Timing and live tracking with the IRONMAN app. - Finisher medal. - Road closures on the main roads of the course. - World Championship slot allocation ceremony on the Sunday after the race. Tips: train in wind and on hills, because in Lanzarote the wind changes the race. Arrive on the island several days early to adapt to the heat and recce the course.
