About the race

The event

Cliffs above the Bay of Biscay, hidden coves and paths through meadows with the sea always in sight: the Barrika Pirata Trail follows the coast of Barrika, in Uribe Kosta (Bizkaia), on a gentle and spectacular morning of trail running. With its pirate name and festive atmosphere, it is one of those small races that win you over: friendly, beautiful and perfect for running by the sea. General information: - Date: Sunday 2027-05-09. The 4th edition was held on Sunday 2026-05-10, so 2027 would be the 5th. - Distance: 13.22 km with 277 m of elevation gain and the same of descent. - Maximum altitude: 130 m. - Difficulty: moderate. - Start: according to the 2025 rules, the running race started at 09:30 from Barrika. - Time limit: 2 hours 30 minutes for the running race. - Organiser: Deika, sponsored by Barrika Town Council. - Minimum age: 13, accompanied by an adult and with parental permission. - There is also a non-competitive walking option, with a 4-hour time limit. Course: a 13.22 km circuit with 277 m of elevation gain, on coastal paths and trails around Barrika, with a maximum altitude of 130 m. There are aid stations on the course and at the finish. In the previous edition the prices were: - €12 until 19 April. - €15 from 20 to 26 April. - €20 from 27 April to 8 May. Entries are always subject to bib availability. There are 100 free entries for Barrika residents: you pay when registering and are refunded after the race. Bib pickup: according to the 2025 rules, the t-shirt, bib and chip could be collected in Bilbao in the two weeks before, in person or through someone else. On race day they can also be collected at Barrika Town Hall until half an hour before each start. There is no expo, but the village enjoys a lively race morning. Barrika Pirata Trail name change

The rules of the Barrika Pirata Trail do not include a name change or bib transfer procedure, although the bib, chip and t-shirt can be collected by someone else. A transfer of the entry to another runner should not be assumed, so a bib exchange on Bibready is only possible if the organiser accepts a name change. The only official waiting list is for the 100 free places reserved for Barrika residents. Registration is open until a couple of days before the race, subject to bib availability; join the waiting list on Bibready by activating a bib alert for the Barrika Pirata Trail to receive news.
