A short, steep and technical mountain race that starts and finishes in the Plaza de La Estrella in Cangas de Onís: the TrailXtreme XtremeLagos 14K runs through the hills around the town, on the doorstep of the Picos de Europa. In 2027 it holds its 9th edition and is part of XtremeLagos' big mountain day. General information: - The race is on Saturday 2027-05-08. - It is organised by the Grupo de Montaña Peña Santa and Cangas de Onís town council. - There are 400 bibs. - Categories range from Cadet (15-16) to Veteran C and follow FEMPA rules. Why it is special: - Around 70% of the course is singletrack, uneven and in many places passable only on foot, ideal for lovers of technical terrain. - The route stays outside the National Park boundaries and offers views over the Sella valley and the Onís mountains. - The start and finish are right in the centre of Cangas, next to the Roman Bridge, with a great atmosphere. - Its short format lets you enjoy XtremeLagos without tackling a marathon. Course: it is a loop of about 14 km, with 841 m of elevation gain and the same loss. The organiser also advertises it as 1,700 m of cumulative climbing. It passes El Cascayu, La Valleya, Vega Oñañes, Següencu, La Cueñe, the Repetidor de Següencu, Nieda, the San Antonio chapel and the Aula de la Monarquía in Cangas de Arriba. The course has 560 m of asphalt, 3.6 km of track, mostly uphill, and 9.8 km of trail. There are 4 aid stations: Vega de Oñañes (km 4), Repetidor de Següencu (km 8), Nieda (km 10) and the finish. Timetable: the start is at 10:00 from the Plaza de La Estrella. There is a cut-off at the Repetidor de Següencu at 2 h 30 min, and the overall time limit is 6 hours. It is a single start, with no start corral by finishing time. Registration and prices: registration opens on 2026-11-01 at 20:00 on CronoEmpa-t and closes on 2027-04-30, or earlier if it sells out. Prices are: - 20 € until 2026-12-31 or the first 150 bibs; - 22 € until 2027-02-28 or bib 300; - 25 € until 2027-04-30. Unlicensed runners pay 3 € for insurance. Bib pickup: bib collection is at the Cangas de Onís Tourist Office, on Friday 2027-05-07 from 17:00 to 21:00 and on Saturday from 08:00 to 09:30. You must show your ID and your mountain licence if you have one. Someone else can collect it with an authorisation. There is no expo. Mandatory gear: suitable clothing and footwear, a windproof jacket with hood and long sleeves, a cup and a 1.20 x 2.10 m thermal blanket. It may change with the weather. Tips: although it is only 14 km, the steep track up to Següencu and the technical trail sections demand strong legs. Save some energy for the descent to Nieda and Cangas de Arriba, the fastest and most technical part of the course. Bib exchange: a change of holder is allowed until 2027-04-30 from the private area.
